Caring for your Fresh Cut Flowers
At Upper Village Blooms we aim to keep our arrangements fresh. From visiting the flower wholesalers several times a week, to cleaning stems and keeping flowers cold and in the cleanest water possible — we take many steps to ensure your flowers are as fresh as possible. That way, you will enjoy their fragrance and beauty for many days!
To prolong their time in your home, we recommend you empty and re-fill the vase with fresh, cold water as soon as you receive them. Before each arrangement leaves our shop we change the water and trim the stems, however we deliver with the water level a little lower than preferred.
Change water and trim stems every 2-3 days.
Use cold, clear water and trim the ends of the flower stems at a 45 degree angle with a clean knife.
Remove any leaves that are under the water line.
Use only a pinch of the enclosed flower food to fresh water.
Avoid placing your flowers in a warm or sunny spot.
Prune out less hardy flowers while keeping the longer lasting ones in the vase.
Flowers such as ranunculus, waxflower, & carnations will last longer than freesia, lisianthus or anemones. However, we have seen all types of flowers dry beautifully, depending on humidity and temperature.
If your flowers are wilting and browning within 3-5 days of receiving them, please call us. This is not normal for Upper Village Blooms’s flowers.
If you need to refrigerate flowers, we recommend a temperature range of 35-45 degrees F. Do not place flowers in a location with apples, bananas, melons, pears and peaches, or anything that gives off ethylene gas.
We are phasing out the use of flower foam based arrangements for many reason. However, if you have an arrangement designed in floral foam, add cold, clean water to the container regularly. When the flowers are done, discard the floral foam. Refrain from inhaling the foam and wash hands after touching. Do not allow children to play with flower foam.
We accept clean, used vases of clear glass for recycling and reuse. Leave them at our front door if we are closed.
